Beautiful 1951 Steel & Gold Rolex Oyster Bubbleback Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Only 3 or 4 vintage watches have achieved iconic status and the Rolex Bubbleback is one of them.

This is an extremely rare and highly collectable steel & gold Rolex Oyster Bubbleback dating from 1951. The provenance polished steel & gold (bezel & crown) case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear – there is some pitting on the case back which looks less pronounced in real life (happy to send the original pictures). The original Rolex signed crisp white dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is classically late art-deco. The applied gold hour batons at the quarters with painted (black) hour batons in between along with the original gold dauphine hands and sub-second create a stunning look. The solid gold Thunderbird bezel frames the dial perfectly. The original & very rare Oyster signed with the Swiss ‘Cross’ screw down winding crown is again in excellent condition. The very high grade Rolex signed perpetual movement is as clean as I’ve seen and has just been fully serviced by my professional watchmaker. To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, high quality, black Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with gold plated Hirsch buckle.

As many will know, when Rolex first made a perpetual (automatic) movement they had to redesign the case due to its size, hence the phrase ‘bubble back’. I have added a new, high quality black crocodile skin strap with a steel Hirsch buckle to complete this beautiful watch. This is one of if not the most collectable Rolex watch.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.
