Super Rare Full Size 1954 Solid 9ct Gold Rolex Precision ‘Roulette’ Date Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a beautiful example of the full size Rolex Precision ‘Roulette’ date from 1954. The solid 9ct gold yellow gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The original ivory/cream Rolex signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The raised gilt (gold colour) alternating Arabic hour numbers and teardrop hour batons along with the original gilt dauphine hands (blued steel second hand) provide the softest contrast to the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case – the very rare Roulette date, so called as the date alternates between black and red, is just wonderful. The very high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this piece we’ve added a new, high quality dark brown crocodile skin strap with gold plated buckle (we have the Hirsch franchise and would be happy to switch this to a black crocodile skin or any colour/material you require).

Please note, this is a relatively small watch for a man and could be described as unisex.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Case

The solid 9ct gold yellow gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The case measures 33 mm’s across, excluding the winding crown and 39 mm’s long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘D S & S’ (this is the English casemaker David Shackman who made cases for a number of the major Swiss brands including Rolex, Omega and Jaeger) and the case number is ‘268’. It also has the appropriate hallmarks for solid 9ct gold. The Assay office is Birmingham and the age letter is ‘T’ dating it to 1954.
