Collector Rarity 1940’s Rolex Super Oyster Hooded Lug Bubbleback with Box and Buckle Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Only 3 or 4 vintage watches have achieved iconic status and the Rolex Bubbleback is one of them…. Recognised as the first reliable automatic watch Rolex produced it heralded the start of the future of movements. All Bubblebacks are rare and came in steel, steel & gold and solid gold. Very few were made with the solid gold ‘hoods’ between the lugs….

This hooded lug Rolex ‘Super’ Oyster Bubbleback is in overall excellent condition. The steel and solid gold case is in very good condition with only some minor pitting around the bezel and caseback. The original Rolex signed slightly off-white dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is just beautiful. The applied gold Arabic numbers and spearhead batons along with the original gold angular hands (blued steel second hand) and railway line style minute markers are perfectly framed by the solid gold bezel and hoods. The original Rolex signed perpetual movement is again in very good condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this watch we’ve added a new, high quality, dark brown Hirsch alligator strap with a genuine solid 9ct gold Rolex buckle from the 1940’s. We also have a genuine Rolex coffin box which is in excellent condition.

This watch came from the collection of the famous Rolex collector and sadly recently departed, Shigeharu Aritake. ‘Shiggy’ was well known around the world as the author of Rolex Scene and his retail outlets in Tokyo.

Watches of this rarity are rarely available and if history is any judge they will not only prove a lovely thing to own but also a great investment.
