Exceptional 1947 Jumbo Size Solid 18ct Rose Gold Rolex Precision ‘Chronometer’ Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a simply beautiful example of one of the rarest Precisions Rolex made. This jumbo size solid 18ct solid rose gold Rolex precision from 1947 (the serial number is 603963 dating it to 1947) is simply magnificent. The jumbo size case is in virtually flawless condition – it even has the period ‘Thimble’ crown and very rarely the Rolex crown and serial number are visible on the outside caseback (there are nearly always worn off with wear and polishing). The original steel coloured dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is classically late art-deco. The alternating raised rose gilt hour batons and Arabic numbers along with the original slim rose gold hands (blued steel second hand) provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the beautiful solid rose gold case – please see picture 6 for the dial and baton/hand colour. The super high grade Rolex signed ‘chronometer’ standard manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker – this is the highest grade of manual wind movement Rolex made at this time. To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, high quality, dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches dark brown crocodile skin strap with aftermarket yellow gold Rolex buckle – we hold the Hirsch franchise and can supply any strap in their range.

To summarise, this is the largest case size Rolex Precision made (36 mm’s across excluding the crown (there was a 37 mm made by Dennison)) during this time with the highest grade of manual wind movement made at this time, is solid 18ct rose gold and has the ‘Thimble’ winding crown and serial number… This is one of the most complete watches we’ve had in our collection.
