Exceptional 1954 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Linen Dial Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a simply stunning Rolex Oyster Perpetual dating from 1954. The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The original and extremely rare Rolex signed crisp white (please see picture 6 for the colour of the steel batons and hands) linen dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is classically Rolex. The applied steel hour batons and the original steel hands (blued steel second hand) flow into the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case. The steel Rolex signed Oyster crown is again in excellent condition and working perfectly. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic ‘Butterfly’ movement has just been serviced by my professional watchmaker. To complete this beautiful watch we’ve added a new, super high quality black Hirsch & Sonning Vintage Watches ‘London’ alligator skin strap with steel Hirsch buckle. This is a simply beautiful and incredibly rare piece at a lower price than an entry level steel Oyster….. If history is any judge it will only increase in value.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Case

The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The case measures 34 mm across, excluding the Rolex signed winding crown and 42 mm long including the lugs. The inside case back carries the beautiful old Rolex crown and is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Swiss’ and the case number is ‘6580’. Rolex used standard casebacks for most Oysters during this period and the case reference of 6584 can be seen scored out. The age reference is ‘IV54’ dating it to 1954.

The Conclusion

This is an extremely rare and highly collectable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. I will provide an insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty of photographing this piece, it looks far better in real life. Subject to your location I’ll happily show the watch. Please ring me if you have any questions: Chris 07917 100927
