RESERVED – Just Beautiful 1930’s Solid 18ct Gold Rolex ‘Tiger Stripe’ Brancard Prince 971A Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

I love all the watches in our collection and most are rare and some very rare. However, to find a solid 18ct gold ‘Tiger Stripe’ Prince takes rareness to another level. The Prince was introduced in 1928 and the Brancard was a variant (means ‘stretch’ in French which related to flared sides) brought in a few years later. The platinum and jump hour models are the most difficult to find and the tiger stripe comes very close, especially in 18ct gold. The manual movement in a Prince was the first watch to be given the prestigious ‘Observatory’ quality status; a genuine milestone in watch technology.

This Rolex Prince dates from the 1930’s and is just beautiful. The solid 18ct white and yellow gold case is in overall excellent condition – there’s a couple of minor dings on the outside case back. The original Rolex signed dial looks to have been refinished at some point in its history but we believe it’s at least 10 years ago – it’s worth noting that Rolex didn’t always sign their dials ‘Swiss’ at the bottom. The original Rolex signed ‘Observatory’ quality manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch currently sits on a black Hirsch lizard skin strap which is in good condition – I’ve just ordered a new black calf skin strap from Hirsch which should be here in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Watches of this condition and quality rarely come onto the market and prices are as high as £20,000.00

The inside case is signed ‘Rolex’, ’25 World’s Records’, ‘Geneva Suisse’ and ‘RWC Ltd’. It also the appropriate hallmarks for solid 18ct gold.

The Conclusion

This is an extremely rare and highly collectable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. I will provide an insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty of photographing this piece, it looks far better in real life. Subject to your location I’ll happily show the watch. Please ring me if you have any questions: Chris 07917 100927
