Just Beautiful 1940’s Oversize Solid 18ct Rose Gold Jaeger le Coultre Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Founded in 1833, Jaeger Le Coultre have long been acknowledged as one of the premier watchmakers both in terms of their extremely high quality movements and their effortlessly elegant design. It was also interesting to read the recent Daily Telegraph article on vintage watches with the highest investment potential – Jaeger was given a special mention along with Rolex and Patek….

This beautiful and classically art-deco oversize wristwatch encapsulates both these facets. The solid 18ct rose gold tear drop lug case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear – it’s very rare to find these in 18ct, as many as 95% were made in 9ct. The high grade Jaeger signed manual movement is in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by my professional watchmaker. The original ivory/cream Jaeger signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is deliciously elegant. The finely applied alternating gilt spear head hour batons and painted Arabic hour numbers along with the angular gilt (rose gold colour) hands provide the most subtle contrast to the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case. To complete this elegant watch we have added a new, high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order. Also, I offer a full refund if you are not entirely happy, as long as the watch is returned within seven days for the UK, twelve days if overseas, in the same condition.

The Case

The gleaming provenance polished solid 18ct rose gold oversize case is in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear. The delicious tear drop lugs and perfectly proportioned case give a classically art-deco look. The case measures 35 mm’s wide, excluding the winding crown and 44 mm’s, including the lugs. The inside caseback has the appropriate hallmarks for solid 18ct gold and is signed ‘LC’ with the tree in the middle. The outside has the Jaeger reference of ‘L169316A’

The Dial

The original Jaeger signed ivory/cream dial is deliciously elegant and understated. The applied gilt (rose gold colour) spearhead hour batons and painted (black) Arabic numbers at the quarters gives a classically art-deco look – the inner ‘railway line’ minute ring is as defined as the day it was made. The angular rose gilt hands complete the look. It is signed ‘Jaeger Le Coultre’ and ‘Swiss’.

The Movement

Jaeger movements are recognised as one of the highest quality in watchmaking and were used by Patek Phillipe. This jewelled movement has just been fully serviced by my professional watchmaker and is running beautifully. It is signed ‘Jaeger Le Coultre’ and ‘Swiss’. The movement reference is ‘218719’

The Strap

To complete this elegant watch we have added a new, high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.
