Just Beautiful 1940’s Oversize Steel & Gold Rolex Oyster Precision Metropolitan Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1940’s and 1960’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30mm across the case, known as mid-size, and 33mm known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 or 35mm across the case excluding the winding crown.

This steel and solid gold oversize Rolex also has the higher grade ‘Adjusted to 2 Positions’ movement dates from the 1940’s. The solid steel & gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear – there is some very minor pitting on the outside caseback at the edges – very rarely the Rolex crown is clearly visible (these are nearly always worn off with wear and polishing). The original Rolex signed ivory/cream sub-second dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The very high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this amazing piece we’ve use a new, high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.

Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Dial

The original Rolex signed ivory/cream sub-second dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The raised gold hour batons with raised gold Roman Numerals at the quarters along with the original slim gold hands (the tip of the hour hand does have some wear but this is hard to see in real life) and sub-second dial create a stunning art-deco look. The dial is signed ‘Rolex’ and ‘Swiss Made’.

Please see picture 6 for the colours of the batons and hands.
