Just Beautiful 1951 Steel & Solid Gold Oversize Rolex Precision ‘Chronometer’ Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1940’s and 1960’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30mm across the case, known as mid-size, and 33mm known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 or 35mm across the case excluding the winding crown.

This steel and solid gold oversize Rolex also has the higher grade ‘Adjusted to 2 Positions Chronometer’ movement dates from 1951. The solid steel & gold oversize case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear – very rarely the Rolex crown and original serial number are wonderfully defined on the outside caseback (these are nearly always worn off with wear and polishing). Also very rarely the watch comes with the original gold ‘Thimble’ winding crown. The original Rolex signed ivory/cream dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The applied gold diamond batons with Arabic and Spearhead at the quarters along with the original hands provide a soft contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the solid gold ‘Thunderbird’ bezel. The super high grade Rolex signed manual wind ‘Chronometer’ standard movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker – this is the highest grade they made at this time. To complete this amazing piece we’ve use a new, high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.

Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.
