Stunning 1954 Oversize Steel and Solid Gold Rolex Precision Sub-Second Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1940’s and 1960’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30 mm’s across the case, known as mid-size, and 33 mm’s known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 or 35 mm’s across the case excluding the winding crown.

This steel and solid gold oversize Rolex also has the higher grade ‘Adjusted to 2 Positions’ movement dates from 1954. The solid steel & gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear – there is some very minor pitting and a very shallow ding on the beautifully rounded outside steel case back – very rarely the Rolex crown and original serial number are clearly visible (these are nearly always worn off with wear and polishing). The original Rolex signed ivory/cream sub-second dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this amazing piece we’ve use a new, high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.

Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 3 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The outside caseback carries the Rolex crown and the serial number is ‘932818’ (dating it to 1954) and also has the words ‘Modele Deposes (meaning patented’. The Dial

The original Rolex signed ivory/cream sub-second dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The inlaid gilt (yellow gold) batons with double batons at the quarters along with the original gold hands provide a soft contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the solid gold Thunderbird bezel. This is a beautiful example of a watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy.
