Stunning 1957/1959 Steel & Gold Rolex Oyster with Original Guarantee & Chronometer Certificate Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a beautiful example of the steel & solid gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual dating from 1957 (made) & 1959 (sold) with the original guarantee and chronometer certificate (as few as 1 in 200 watches of this age have this paperwork…). The steel & solid gold (bezel) case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The original crisp white dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is stunning. The raised gold spearhead hour batons along with the original gold dauphine hands provide a lovely contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the slim solid gold fluted bezel. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in very good condition and very rarely it’s the ‘butterfly’ rotor version – Rolex only used this rotor on a limited number of movements and it’s so called due to the antenna style cut outs on the rotor. The movement has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. We also have a genuine (we think it’s original to the watch) steel & solid gold Rolex jubilee style bracelet. Whilst in good condition and a great length (will fit a wrist up to 8 inches) it does have the expected sag from an older bracelet. It’s an extremely rare thing to find but we also hold the Hirsch franchise if you’d prefer a leather strap.

Watches in this condition and rarity are already proving to be great investments; with this paperwork it’s exceptional.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 3 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The movement has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Adjusted 5 Positions and Temperature’, ‘Twenty Five 25 Jewels’, ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Swiss’, ‘Rolex Perpetual Patented’ and the movement number is ‘708733’ which matches the reference on the chronometer certificate.

The Guarantee and Chronometer Certificate

As few as 1 in 200 watches of this age have any original paperwork and to find one with the original guarantee and chronometer certificate is super rare. In those days Rolex tested each individually and hand typed the results. This certificate matches the movement number in the watch and on the guarantee. We also have the original guarantee which again matches the serial number. The watch was made in 1957 and sold in 1959.

The Conclusion

This is a rare and highly collectable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. I will provide an insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty of photographing this piece, it looks even better in real life. Subject to your location I’ll happily show the watch.
