Stunning 1968 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Semi-Bubbleback Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a stunning example of the iconic Rolex Super Oyster Perpetual ‘Semi-Bubbleback’ dating from 1968. The original and striking black gloss Rolex signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is wonderfully understated. The applied gilt (gold colour) hour batons and steel dauphine hands provide a soft contrast to the black dial is perfectly framed by the steel Thunderbird bezel. The original solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear the Thunderbird bezel is extremely well defined. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by my watchmaker. To complete this iconic watch I’ve added a new, super high quality, Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches black ‘London’ alligator skin strap with steel Hirsch buckle.

The Semi-Bubbleback is one of the most desired Oysters and followed the iconic Bubbleback, Rolex’s first automatic movement. As many will know, when Rolex introduced the Bubbleback they had to create a larger case to accommodate the larger movement and they did this by creating a rounded case back. The Bubbleback was a 30mm watch and when the fashion changed for larger watches they carried this on for a few years. The ‘Semi-Bubbleback’ is even more desireable than the Bubbleback due to its’ larger size. The deliciously rounded case back on this example in excellent condition. Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 3 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.
