Extremely Rare 1952 Super Size Solid 10ct Gold Explorer Series (Ref.6098) Honeycomb Dial Rolex Oyster Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a stunning example of the super size solid 10ct gold Rolex Oyster ‘6098’ dating from 1952. This was the prototype for one of the famous Rolex watch series, the Explorer. The average case size for a mans watch in the 1950’s was 33 mm across excluding the crown and this case is just over 35 mm (it also has 20 mm lugs rather than the standard 19 mm). The original ivory/cream Rolex signed ‘linen’ dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is stunning. The applied gold batons along with the gold leaf hands (blued steel second hand) provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the gleaming gold bezel. The 35 mm solid 10ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The original Rolex signed and super high grade ‘Chronometer’ standard automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this magnificent piece we’ve added a new, super high quality, black Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with gold plated buckle.

This is the first example of this watch we’ve had in over 8 years trading….

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

This is an extremely rare and highly collectible vintage watch from one of history’s most famous names and will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy.
