This is a collector standard example of the iconic Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph watch from 1979. First introduced in 1953, the rotating bezel. It was adopted by the Thunderbird Squadron in the USA and still carries the name ‘Thunderbird Bezel’. It was added to the Datejust in the early 1960’s as an option alongside the fluted and smooth bezels. All that’s great but to be frank it just looks fabulous.
This example was made in 1979 (serial 5.9million) and is the quick-set date change model. The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The original Thunderbird bezel rotates in either direction. The original steel pearlescent dial is again in excellent condition and looks stunning. The very high grade Rolex signed chronometer standard automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on what we believe is the original Rolex Jubilee bracelet – the age reference on the deployment is ‘D’ which dates it to 1979 (the other reference is 6250H and the end pieces are ‘555’). The bracelet does have some sag/stretch but very little for its age and aesthetically it’s excellent – please advise your wrist size – it will fit a 7.5 inch wrist and we do have spare links which are £75 each).
Very rarely (as few as 1 in 50 of this age) we also have the original Rolex punched papers, Rolex wallet (with the correct serial number) and the original Rolex boxes, inner and outer, with the 162507 sticker on the side.
This is fabulous and rare watch and we will give a 12 month guarantee on the movement.
