Rolex have many milestones; the Oyster was the first truly waterproof watch, the Submariner became the first recognised diver’s ‘tool’ watch and the Prince became the first truly accurate and beautiful dress watch – it’s rumoured that Al Capone wore one…. Launched in 1928, it came in a rectangular case or flared case, known as brancard (French for stretchy). With its large centre second dial it also allowed it to be easily read became the watch of choice for doctors (it was also expensive and only professionals could afford it).
This example was made in the late 1920’s so one of the first. The steel case is in overall excellent condition with only small signs of wear. The original steel dial is, we believe, untouched and is just beautiful. The large hour half with the blued steel hands and railway line minute markers along with the subsidiary second dial creates a stunning look. The original Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by SHWR. The watch sits on a new, black Hirsch crocodile strap with aftermarket steel Rolex buckle.
This is one of Rolex’s most famous watches and a genuine piece of history.
