We are working with a UK based collector who has asked us to market a selection of his watches. As part of the offer each watch has had a full service and refurbishment by the UK’s leading watchmaker, Steven Hale Watch Restoration. Each watch will come with a 2 year guarantee from Steve Hale and a lifetime guarantee on the authenticity by Sonning Vintage Watches.
Patek Philippe are quite simply the most famous and most prestigious watchmaker in the world. They have broken pretty much every record in terms of accuracy, price, rarity and waiting lists. Founded in 1839 they created many of the most famous watches in the world.
This particular watch was made in 1946 and it’s the very rare oversize Calatrava – most Pateks of this age have case sizes of 32mm or 33mm which was the standard for a man’s watch at this time. However, as styles change the smaller Calatravas can look small on the wrist and this one, at 35mm excluding the crown, has all the beauty of late art-deco style and still a good size. The solid 18ct yellow gold bull horn case is in near pristine condition after a soft provenance polish. The original Patek signed steel dial is untouched and does show signs of wear. I’ve tried to capture these on the pictures but please remember we use macro photography and the marks are hard to see with the naked eye (I struggled to capture the colours so have a video of the watch on my wrist and if you’d like a copy please advise your What’s App number). The very high grade Patek signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by SHWR. The watch sits on a new brown Hirsch leather strap with a gold plated ‘AW’ signed buckle (Patek used AW for their buckles during this period).
We also have a Patek Philippe extract of archives from May 2020 confirming the history and authenticity of the watch.
All Pateks hold a special place in this history of horology but to find one in this condition and originality is extremely rare and the oversize case makes it a very wearable watch.
