Rolex began making larger dress watches in the very late 1930’s – the fashion for mens watches was a case size of 30 mm to 33 mm. They also made some ‘oversize’ cases which were 34 to 35 mm and extremely rarely they made jumbo size cases which were 36 mm excluding the crown. With over 1300 sales of Rolex this is only the fourth jumbo size we’ve ever had….
The solid 18ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The original Rolex signed ivory/cream linen (textured) dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is both understated and very much of its time. The raised gold hour batons and original gold hands provide a subtle contrast to the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case – please see picture 6 for the baton colours). The very high grade Rolex signed 17 jewel manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by my professional watchmaker. To complete this very special watch I have added a new, very high quality Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches dark brown ‘London’ alligator skin strap with a gold plated aftermarket Rolex buckle.
This is a simply stunning example of this iconic and extremely rare watch; a similar piece, if available, in the Burlington Arcade would be comfortably in excess of £10,000….
My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order
