Vacheron & Constantin are recognised as the world’s oldest watchmaker and were founded in 1755. Throughout their history they have created some of the world’s most beautiful and sought after watches and this stunning 1953 solid 18ct yellow gold piece is a wonderful example. Very rarely is the oversize model – the average size of a man’s watch at this time was 32/33mm and this one’s 36mm which is much more in line with today’s style – the case is also in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. It’s also the Bull Horn lug model which was the most sought after design at this time. The original Vacheron signed steel pearlescent dial is magnificent. The applied gold hour batons and numbers at the quarters along with the gold hands and subsidiary second dial creates a stunning late art-deco look. Vacheron movements are recognised as amongst the best in the world and this manual wind is in excellent condition and has just been serviced by SHWR. Whilst we haven’t got the original paperwork Vacheron offer a service which gives access to their archives. We have the official Vacheron extract of archives confirming the provenance and authenticity.
Vacheron, in terms of quality, are very much in the same league as Patek Philippe. This is a stunning early example from one of the best watchmakers in the World.
