I love all the watches in our collection but every now and again we find something exceptional and this Memovox is just such a watch. The Memovox was introduced by Jaeger in the late 50’s after the wrist alarm and is recognised as one of the most sought after watches of the decade. The dial design, case size (37mm excluding the winding crowns – average watch size in the 60’s was 34mm) and alarm function created a truly iconic watch – so much so that Steve McQueen had it as an everyday wearer.
This example was made in 1964/65 (very hard to date Jaeger with precision as they only gave 5 to 10 year production figures but we think it was between 1964 and 1965). Extremely rarely this is the solid 18ct yellow gold model and it’s believed to represent around 1.5% of the total models made (we haven’t polished the case but it’s in very good condition with only a few minor signs of wear). Equally rarely this one also has the ‘JL’ signed movement and alarm winding crowns – the vast majority of these were replaced by un-signed crowns. The original and untouched Jaeger le Coultre signed steel pearlescent inner and slightly darker steel outer dial is in amazing condition for its age with only minor signs of wear that are hard to see with the naked eye (happy to send a WhatsApp video if required). The applied gold batons and gold angled hands create a soft contrast the steel and are perfectly framed by the gleaming 18ct gold case. You’ll notice an arrow at the ’12’ and this is the alarm. It’s set by using the bottom JL signed crown and the alarm main- spring is charged using the same crown. The super high grade Jaeger signed ‘bumper’ automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this magnificent piece we’ve a new, super high quality brown Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with gold plated Hirsch buckle.
In view of the quality and condition of the movement we will give a 12 month guarantee. Whilst robust we wouldn’t recommend this as an everyday wearer but a perfect weekend watch.
