We are working with a UK based collector who has asked us to market a selection of his watches. As part of the offer each watch has had a full service and refurbishment by the UK’s leading watchmaker, Steven Hale Watch Restoration. Each watch will come with a 2 year guarantee from Steve Hale and a lifetime guarantee on the authenticity by Sonning Vintage Watches.
The Rolex Oyster GMT was launched in 1954 and has become hugely collectable over the years with early examples, the 6542, nudging £100,000… The 1675 series has one of Rolex longest production runs. Film fans may know that Pussy Galore wore a GMT in Goldfinger – Pan Am also used the watch for all their pilots.
This 1675 was made in 1970 and the provenance polished case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs or wear. The original and untouched Rolex signed dial is stunning. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition. The watch sits on a genuine Rolex Oyster bracelet. The end piece references are 78360 and 580 and the deployment clasp is 78360 and J dating it to the mid 1980’s. In terms of provenance we have:
- The Rolex punched papers
- What we believe is the original receipt from Wempe (there are no references but the receipt came with the watch and paperwork)
- The Rolex brochure
- What we believe is the original Rolex box (period correct and again came with the watch and paperwork – the inside is missing).
This is a beautifully original example of one of the most famous watches in the Rolex catalogue. Whilst we cannot guarantee future values if history is any judge it’ll provide a great watch to wear and a sound investment.
