Stunning 1975 Steel and Yellow Gold (Bezel & Crown) Sigma Dial Rolex Oyster Datejust Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a beautiful example of the iconic Rolex Datejust from 1975 – very rarely it has the yellow gold smooth bezel as against the usual fluted. The solid steel and yellow gold (bezel) case is in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear. The original Rolex signed champagne textured dial is again in excellent condition and stunning – it’s also the sigma dial denoted by the 2 ‘0”s before and after the T Swiss T at the bottom of the dial. This means the hour batons are solid gold so won’t tarnish. The very high grade Rolex signed chronometer standard automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on a new, super high quality, dark brown Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with Hirsch gold plated buckle. In terms of provenance we have:

  • The original Rolex punched papers showing it was sold in 1975 in Florida
  • The Rolex brochures and wallet
  • The Rolex boxes, inner and outer

As few as 5 in 100 watches of this age have any any paperwork… In view of the high quality movement we will give a 12 month guarantee on it.

The Conclusion

This is a rare and highly collectable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. I will provide an insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty of photographing this piece, it looks even better in real life. Subject to your location I’ll happily show the watch.
