Outstanding 1948 Solid 18ct Yellow Gold Rolex Oyster Datejust Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

I love all the watches in our collection but every now and again something even more special comes along and this Datejust is just such a watch. Rolex launched the Datejust in 1945 and this one was made in 1948. Very rarely it’s in solid 18ct gold and the case and fluted bezel are in overall excellent condition with only minor signs of wear and surface scratching – I’ve tried to capture these on the photographs and happy to send the high resolution ones or a WhatsApp  wrist video. The original steel/champagne Rolex signed dial has aged beautifully. The gold hands and applied hour batons provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the solid 18ct gold fluted bezel. The very high grade Rolex signed ‘chronometer’ standard automatic movement is again in very good condition and has just been serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this stunning piece I’ve added a new, super high quality, dark brown Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap along with a genuine solid 9ct gold Rolex buckle from the 1950’s – this is signed ‘ALD’ who made cases and buckles for a number of the major Swiss brands and is extremely rare (the strap retails at £230 and the buckle would sell for £500…).

In view of the condition and high quality we will give a 12 month guarantee on the movement in addition to our lifetime guarantee on the provenance and authenticity.

The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘RWC Ltd’, ‘624671 (serial number – dates it to 1948)’ and the case number is ‘1601’.
