I love to find the very best examples of highly desirable watches and this 16710 is just such a watch. Sold in 1996, we believe the watch has never been opened and never been polished – the steel case and bracelet are near perfect with only the smallest signs of wear. The bezel insert, we believe to be the original, is again in outstanding condition and moves with a firm ‘click’ in both directions. The original Rolex case back sticker is in very good condition and the hologram is clearly defined. The Rolex bracelet, which we believe is original but it is designed for a Submariner (these were available to buy at this time and it does have the correct date code), has the references of 501B and 93150 at the end pieces and 93150 and W4 (age code for 1995) on the deployment clasp.
In terms of provenance we have:
- The original Rolex punched papers
- The original Rolex brochures date 1995
- The original Rolex swing-tag with the matching serial number
- The Rolex leather pouch for the paperwork
- The original Rolex box, inner and outer (the outer box carries the correct 16710 sticker).
The GMT Coke is one of the most desirable watches in their catalogue and to find one in this condition with full provenance is exceptionally rare.
Rolex have proved an excellent investment and whilst we cannot guarantee future values if history is any judge it should provide a beautiful piece to own and increase in value.
