Jaeger le Coultre are one of the most famous names in watch and clock making with a history stretching back to 1833 and began making their own movements in the 1860’s. In the early 1900’s Jacques David Le Coultre joined forces with Edmond Jaeger to create Jaeger le Coultre. They are the most innovative of watchmakers starting with the famous ‘Reverso’ through to the Wrist Alarm and Memovox. Using the ‘bumper’ style automatic movement with one of the largest cases from the 1960’s (37mm excluding the crowns; the style was for 34/5mm watches) and the inner alarm dial they created a genuinely iconic piece.
This Memovox was made around 1967 (very difficult to be precise on Jaeger and we use a mixture of the case and movement details) and is in beautifully original condition. The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear – this is the large model and measures 37mm across excluding the very rare (these are usually replaced by non-Jaeger crowns) ‘JL’ signed crowns (one for the movement and one to charge/set the alarm). The original steel Jaeger signed dial is untouched and in overall very good condition – there are some scratches and I’ve highlighted them on the picture in between the case sides. They’re hard to see with the naked eye. The Memovox comes with 2 crowns, one to charge the automatic movement and set the time and the other to charge a separate spring and set the alarm (the small arrow under the ’12’ of the dial). The very high grade Jaeger signed automatic ‘Bumper’ movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on a super high quality new black Hirsch ‘London’ alligator skin strap with steel Hirsch buckle.
