Jaeger le Coultre are one of the most famous names in watch and clock making with a history stretching back to 1833 and began making their own movements in the 1860’s. In the early 1900’s Jacques David Le Coultre joined forces with Edmond Jaeger to create Jaeger le Coultre. They are the most innovative of watchmakers starting with the famous ‘Reverso’ through to the Wrist Alarm and Memovox. The Reverso was born in 1930 after a Swiss businessman, César de Trey, attended a Polo match and was challenged by one of the players to create a watch that wouldn’t break during a match. In 1931 the watch was launched and it was one of most complicated wristwatches ever made.
This example was made in the late 1930’s/early 1940’s and is wonderful condition. The steel case is in overall excellent condition with only minor signs of wear – there is a small amount of corrosion on the outside case back and it looks as though it had a light inscription at some point and this has been polished off. The original and we believe untouched dial is again in very good condition with only minor signs of wear. The original blued steel hands, railway line minute markers and bold painted Arabic numbers create a stunning look. The high grade original movement has been fully serviced by SHWR. The watch sits on a new, black, alligator strap with steel buckle.
The Reverso is a true classic and this is a wonderful example.
