The Rolex Submariner is arguably their most famous model. Introduced in 1953, it’s been the staple of divers, Presidents, movie stars, oil rig workers and just anybody who wants a watch for all occasions. A non-date watch up until the 1680 was introduced in 1967 it was initially a very poor seller – why would a diver need to know the date…. Rolex did write the word Submariner in red and it was gradually accepted and date versions now account for around 70% of the sales. The red Submariner is recognised as a genuine grail watch and attracts huge interest from collectors and watch connoisseurs around the world.
This example was made in 1975 (3.71 million serial) and the solid steel case is in very good condition but does have surface marks to the case consistent with regular but careful wear. The guaranteed genuine and original Rolex dial is in excellent condition and any marks are just reflections (Rolex used plexiglass at this time and they reflect light very badly). The lume has aged to a lovely mushroom colour and the pearl in the bezel insert matches. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on what we believe is the original Rolex ‘light’ bracelet (we guarantee it’s genuine Rolex) which does have some sag and wear marks – it also has 11 links and whilst we can source links they are difficult to find and cost around £250. It will currently fit a 7.5 inch wrist. The end pieces carry the references 380 and 9315. We also have the original Rolex punched papers and stunning Rolex box (again, we believe this is original to the watch). To find a red submariner is difficult but to find one with the original papers and box is extremely rare.
We will give a 12 month guarantee on the movement.
