If Rolex are known for one watch it would be the Submariner and the 5513 is probably the most famous. Introduced in 1962, it ran through to 1990 and was the original ‘Tool’ watch. There are many dial variations but one of the rarest is known as the pre-comex. Comex, a French company who worked with Rolex to create the legendary Comex Submariner, used this dial for their watch. It was only produced between 1977 and 1978 so had a very low production run and is extremely collectible.
This example has the serial of 5.13million dating it to 1978. The solid steel case is in overall very good condition with signs of wear in line with regular but careful wear (we haven’t polished it but a watch of this age will almost certainly have been at some time in its life). The original and untouched matt dial with minty white batons that match the hands is in near flawless condition (it’s as good as we’ve seen). The Rolex coronet is designed to be slightly smudged and the ‘=’ sign on the feet first section is slightly to the left of the ‘A’ in the word Submariner. I’m not sure what the production run was but it will be relatively low further enhancing the rareness of this model. The very high grade Rolex signed calibre 1520 movement is again in very good condition and will be serviced by our professional watchmaker in between sale and delivery. The bracelet end pieces are 580 and 78360 and the bracelet deployment clasp age reference is ‘B’ which dates it to 1978, so rare to find. We also have a wrist video and happy to send on What’s App. Whilst we cannot guarantee future values 5513’s have shown excellent increases over the last 10 years.
This is a wonderfully original example of one of the most famous watches in the World. Worn by James Bond through to Barrack Obama. We will give a 12 month guarantee on the movement. In view of the age we cannot guarantee it’s fully waterproof.
