In the 1950’s the USAF demonstration squadron, the Thunderbirds, adopted this model as their chosen watch and it’s been known as the Thunderbird ever since. The example was made in 1972 and the steel and solid gold (bezel) case is in overall excellent condition with only some minor signs of wear. The original and stunning jet black dial is again in excellent condition – very hard to photograph black dial watches and any marks are just reflections. The Rolex signed chronometer standard automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on a new, super high quality black Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with Hirsch gold plated buckle.

The example was made in 1971 and the steel and solid gold (bezel) case is in overall excellent condition with only some minor signs of wear. The case measures 36mm across, excluding the gold Rolex crown and 44mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented Stainless Steel’, ‘1625’ and the age reference is ‘11.72’ dating it to 1972.
