This is a beautiful example of the iconic Rolex Datejust from 1968/69. As Rolex has never published an official dating table, we cross-reference several established sources. The serial number of 1.79 million dates the watch to 1968 but it was sold in 1969. The solid steel & white gold (fluted bezel) case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The original silver sunburst pie-pan ‘Tissue Box” dial is again in excellent condition, with just a tiny mark visible between the 10 and 11 o’clock baton markers. This is relatively minor and does little to detract from the overall appearance of this beautiful original dial. This is only the second ‘Tissue Box’ dial we’ve had in 17 years : this baton configuration is one of the rarest for this period. The original Rolex signed ‘chronometer’ standard automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The watch sits on a new, super high quality, black Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with steel Hirsch buckle. Very rarely for a Datejust of this age, the watch also comes with the original Rolex punched papers and Rolex pouch.
As few as 1 in 40 watches of this age have the original paperwork…
In view of the quality and condition of the movement we will give a 12 month guarantee.
