Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1940’s and 1950’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30mm across the case, known as mid-size, and 33mm known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 or 35mm across the case excluding the winding crown.
This 35mm (excluding the genuine rose gold Rolex crown) Rolex Precision was made in the 1950’s and is stunning. The very rare solid 18ct rose gold engine turned bezel case is in excellent condition with only the minor signs of wear. The dial is signed Rolex and ‘Gobbi’ who were a World famous watch retailer based in Milan. Rolex allowed a few very select partners to add their name on the dial such as Tiffany and Bucherer and in this case Gobbi. The 1842 refers to the year Gobbi were formed. The dial has aged to a beautiful and uniform ivory cream and is both original and untouched which is extremely rare (most age very badly and often have to be refinished but when it’s aged like this one they attract a premium). The very high grade ‘chronometer’ standard manual wind movement (the best Rolex produced at the time) is in very good condition and has just been serviced by our professional watchmaker (the picture was taken at our watchmakers). Only a very few movements, when tested, reached the chronometer standard. To complete this magnificent piece we’ve added a new, super high quality, black Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with a non-Rolex rose gold buckle.
Rolex Precisions of this quality with a fully signed solid 18ct rose gold case are extremely rare and incredibly beautiful. Whilst fine for regular wear we wouldn’t recommend it for every day wear and it isn’t water proof. The movements are excellent quality but being 75 years old it will gain/lose 30 to 40 seconds/day.
