The Submariner is Rolex’s most iconic watch and up until 1967 the 5513/2 were the only models available and didn’t have a date. Then and much to the annoyance of many Submariner devotees they brought the 1680 in and it had a date. Overtime it was of course very successful and highly collectible. This totally original example has aged to a stunning orangey yellow; we use a dial expert when buying this age of watch and he’s seen hundreds of watches and commented ‘it just doesn’t get better than that, buy it!’. The solid steel case is unpolished and does have the usual signs of wear and I’ve tried to capture these but also have a What’s App wrist video if required (we’re unaware of any previous polishes but it will almost certainly have been in the past). The original and untouched dial is in fabulous condition with only minor black dot on the ‘2’ baton and some minor damage on what we believe is the original fat font bezel insert at the ‘8’ position. The original Rolex signed movement is again in excellent condition and our watchmaker will service it between sale and delivery. The guaranteed genuine Rolex bracelet is a later one with the age reference of F which dates it to around 1981. The end pieces are 580 and 585 and 93150. This again has scratches but limited sag.
This is a remarkable example of one of the most iconic watches in the world. The dial and hands are original and we believe the bezel insert is original. Whilst we cannot guarantee future values the Submariner has shown great increases in the last 10 years. We will provide a 12 month guarantee on the movement but cannot guarantee it’s fully waterproof due to the age.
