This is a simply beautiful example of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual dating from 1950. Very rarely, it’s the large case (the average size of a man’s watch in the 1950’s was 33mm and this one is 36mm) ‘Big Bubble’ model in steel and solid gold (the bezel). The steel & gold case is in excellent condition with only a few minor signs of wear – there is evidence of the use of an incorrect tool on the caseback which has flattened a couple of the teeth. The original Rolex signed ivory/cream dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is classically Rolex. The applied gold Arabic hour numbers alternating between gold teardrop hour batons. These, along with the original gold hands create a lovely late art-deco look. The original Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this magnificent piece we’ve added a new, super high quality, dark brown Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with aftermarket steel Rolex buckle.
My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order
